Maternity Benefit Act
The Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 is a landmark law, which makes provisions for maternity benefits. Features include:
- Paid maternity leave of 26 weeks for women employees, unless they have two or more surviving children
- Applies to adopting mother and of a commissioning mother (using a surrogate to bear a child) for the first time, who may claim paid maternity leave for 12 weeks.
- “work from home” option that can be used after the maternity leave expires.
